Hi, My older sister once quoted a line from a movie which stated that you're either an Elvis man or a Beattles man" So if you had a preference, which would you choose? For me, The Beattles hands down!! I can apreciate Elvis's music, but don't particularly like any of it. The fab four on the other hand I have really grown to love. I didn't like them much when I was younger, but now "Hey Jude" is one of my all-time favorite songs. I'm pretty sure it was the first Beattles song I ever heard.
Beattles kick ass!
I think I can confidently say that I am neither. I think both had good songs, both contributed hugely to many genres, the Beatles practically invented the string section use in a pop song and it hasn't been changed much since Elinor Rigby, Elvis was classy, man with character and tunes to match, he took the music of the African Americans (heck, blacks, it's a freakin color and it's not meant in any negative sense) and played it to the white audiance, that was his key to fame, hip hop and rap immitated his success in the 80s. The beatles did more or less the same thing, took elements of rock and blues in America, dressed it up in British accents and people started seeing it for the great music it is, then, of course, they wrote a lot of songs in their own right and they deserve a lot of praise, that being said I can't say I listen to either of these artists on a regular basis and I never have.
both of them are awsome... but my fave is elvis...or should i say, the king!
Beatles for me, if I am giving a preference between those two. I like some Elvis songs, but essentially I agree with the original poster.
Beatles all the way. Not only do I believe them to be one of the greatest bands of all time, if not the greatest, but I have never been able to stand Elvis's irritating voice either. Should it ever turn out that he didn't really die and is stacking shelves somewhere in Staffordshire, then to my mind, that's where his voice belongs!
Dan.
If we're going for technicality and talent, the Beatles all the way. I love Elvis though. I enjoyed the Beatles from 1964 to about 1966 when they started sucking because of the drugs.
beetles for me too! here comes the sun!
Definitely, definitely the Beatles. My enthusiasm for them doesn't quite match Dan's, but it's close. I like the odd Elvis song when I'm in the right mood for that kinda thing, but his voice is amazingly irritating.
Not a proper fan or anything, but Beatles for me too. By miles.
I can appreciate both of them and would have a hard time choosing one over the other.
beetles all the way! They had ringo and he was the first Mr. conducter! It can't get much better than that. I think the first song of theirs I heard was either "I wanna hold your hand" or "Yesterday" most of the Elvis songs I like are covers, anyways.
An interesting question. Thanks for posting. I started to teach myself guitar with a beatles compilation tape I bought in a drug store when I was thirteen or around that age. I like both. Hard to choose. I can appreciate both. I mean elvis was such a big influence on the beatles, and the majority of the british invasion in the sixties. I find that whole era extremeley interesting, there is so much great music from that time. I definetly appreciate that elvis brought the blues to white audiences. I own more beatles albums than elvis though I must say.
Okay, to expand on this topic, what is your favorite Beatles song? I think for me, Hey Jude has to be No. 1, but it's really hard for me to pick a favorite since I like so many Beatles songs. Among my favorites: You Can't do that, O-Bla-Di, Yellow Submarine, Help, Can't buy me Love, Strawberry FieldsForever, and paperback Writer. This is just a partial list, there are lots more Beatles songs I love. For me, Hey Jude is really sentimental, since I first heard it when I was so young. Plus, It reminds me of fun times at the bar. I haven't met anyone who doesn't like that song.
The Beatles are awesome! I agree with the other posters that Elvis's voice is irritating, but I can see how his music influenced the up and coming bands of that era...But Beatles hands down! As far as favorite songs go...Ticket To Ride, Here Comes The Sun, Eleanor Rigby...But there are so many good ones that it's hard to narrow them down.
